Liverpool are prioritizing the acquisition of an “X-factor” attacker this summer, with Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola emerging as a key target, according to reports. The club is also seeking to bolster its midfield under new manager Andoni Iraola, following a fifth-place finish in the Premier League last season.
The need for attacking reinforcements stems from the departure of several senior players, most notably Mohamed Salah, alongside Ibrahima Konate and Andy Robertson. Former Liverpool player John Arne Riise has publicly advocated for the signing of Barcola, praising his potential to provide a spark and change the dynamic of matches, similar to the impact of young players like Rio Ngumoha.
Barcola, a 23-year-old France international, has reportedly indicated a willingness to join Liverpool, presenting a significant opportunity for the club. While Liverpool previously pursued Yan Diomande, the focus has now shifted to securing Barcola’s signature.
Beyond the attack, Iraola is also understood to be keen on strengthening the midfield. The new manager, who officially began his role on Monday, has been advised to add more physicality and power to the engine room. Players like Alex Scott, formerly of Bournemouth, and Roma’s Manu Kone have been linked with moves to Anfield, fitting the profile of players Iraola believes can enhance his high-press, high-intensity system. Riise emphasized the need for a more robust midfield, noting that Liverpool were often overrun in tight challenges last season.
Dominik Szoboszlai was highlighted as Liverpool’s standout midfielder last season, but overall consistency in the midfield proved elusive. Securing these targets would allow Iraola to implement his tactical vision and begin rebuilding Liverpool’s squad after a disappointing campaign.
