Liverpool’s significant summer investment of over €480 million in 2025, under head coach Arne Slot, has been assessed after a disappointing fifth-place Premier League finish. The club broke the Premier League transfer record twice, acquiring Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz, alongside several other high-profile signings.
Alexander Isak arrived from Newcastle United for a league-record fee of €145 million, having previously scored 23 league goals for Eddie Howe’s side in the 2024-25 season. However, the Sweden international struggled to replicate that form at Anfield, netting only four goals in 22 appearances. A broken leg sustained in December against Tottenham Hotspur significantly hampered his debut campaign, leading to a current rating of ‘F’.
Florian Wirtz, signed from Bayer Leverkusen for €125 million, also faced a challenging start to life at Liverpool. Despite being considered one of the most exciting players in world football, the Germany international failed to consistently impress, managing 15 goal contributions in 49 games across all competitions and receiving a ‘C’ rating.
In contrast, Hugo Ekitike, who joined from Eintracht Frankfurt for €95 million, proved to be a resounding success. The France striker continued his goalscoring form, finishing his first season with 17 goals and six assists in 45 games. An Achilles injury against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League cut his season short, but his impact earned him an ‘A’ rating.
Milos Kerkez, a €46.9 million signing from Bournemouth, was Slot’s preferred left-back but didn’t fully live up to expectations, sharing minutes with Andrew Robertson and receiving a ‘C’ rating. Jeremie Frimpong, brought in from Bayer Leverkusen for €40 million to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold, struggled to adapt and delivered only two goals and one assist, earning an ‘E’ rating. Young centre-back Giovanni Leoni, signed for €29.5 million from Parma, suffered an ACL injury on his debut and has not played since.
Freddie Woodman, a free transfer from Preston North End, performed adequately as a backup goalkeeper during a spell of injuries to the first-choice options and was given a ‘B’ rating. His performances suggest he will continue in that role next season.
