Lorient are pursuing a season-long loan deal for Sporting CP midfielder Souleymane Faye, according to L’Équipe. The move comes as Lorient begin to solidify their recruitment plans following the appointment of Alexandre Dujeux as their new manager.
Faye, a 23-year-old Senegal international with one cap for his country, joined Sporting from Granada in January for a reported fee of over €6 million. Despite signing a contract with the Portuguese club that runs until June 2030, he has struggled for consistent playing time, featuring in nine matches for Sporting since his arrival.
The potential loan to Lorient is viewed as a chance for Faye to gain more regular first-team experience. Lorient are actively seeking to strengthen their attacking midfield options ahead of the upcoming Ligue 1 season, and Faye’s profile is considered a good fit for their needs. The Breton club have reportedly already begun discussions with Sporting to explore the possibility of securing the loan.
Faye primarily operates as an attacking midfielder, capable of playing in multiple positions across the front line. At Granada, he demonstrated an ability to contribute goals and assists, which attracted the attention of Sporting in the first place. However, adapting to a new league and a different tactical system at Sporting has proven challenging, limiting his opportunities.
Should the loan move materialize, it would provide Lorient with a dynamic attacking option while allowing Faye to develop his game in a competitive environment. The move could prove mutually beneficial, potentially opening the door for a permanent transfer in the future if Faye impresses during his time in France.
