FC Lorient have announced the signing of Gabin Bernardeau from OGC Nice on a four-year contract, keeping him with the club until June 2030. The 20-year-old midfielder joins Lorient for a reported fee of approximately one million euros.
Bernardeau made seven appearances for Nice this season, but struggled for consistent playing time. He most recently featured in a Coupe de France quarter-final tie against Lorient, ironically missing a penalty in the shootout as Nice progressed. The transfer represents a relatively modest investment for Lorient, focusing on developing young talent within Ligue 1.
This move continues a recent trend of player exchanges between Nice and Lorient. Lorient’s Olivier Pantaloni has brought players to Nice, while this deal sees a young player move in the opposite direction. Bernardeau will be looking to establish himself as a regular starter in Lorient’s midfield, adding depth and potential to the squad.
Bernardeau progressed through the youth ranks at Nice, demonstrating promise as a technically gifted midfielder. While he didn’t fully break into the first team, his potential has been recognised by Lorient. The transfer provides Bernardeau with an opportunity to gain more consistent game time and further develop his skills in a competitive league. Lorient will hope that Bernardeau’s arrival will bolster their midfield options and contribute to their long-term ambitions.
