Morocco will be without Ismael Saibari for their quarter-final clash against France on Thursday evening, after the midfielder sustained a hamstring injury during the round of sixteen victory over Canada. Morocco manager Mohamed Ouahbi confirmed Saibari’s absence in a pre-match press conference, stating the match arrives too soon for the player’s recovery, though he hopes Saibari will be available for the remainder of the tournament.
Saibari has been a key player for the Atlas Lions throughout the 2026 World Cup, contributing three goals in five starts. His absence represents a significant setback for the Moroccan side as they prepare to face the reigning World Cup champions. According to L’Équipe, Soufiane Rahimi is expected to replace Saibari in the starting lineup. The 30-year-old forward has made a notable impact as a substitute throughout the tournament, scoring two goals and providing one assist in five appearances.
Chadi Riad, who was a substitute against Canada, is also anticipated to return to the starting eleven, partnering Issa Diop in central defence. The predicted Morocco lineup is: Bounou – Hakimi, I. Diop, Riad, Mazraoui – Bouaddi, El Aynaoui – B. Díaz, Ounahi, El Khannouss – Rahimi.
Saibari recently completed a move to Bayern Munich, though the details of the transfer were not disclosed in the report. He had established himself as a promising talent with his performances for Morocco, demonstrating an ability to contribute goals from midfield. Rahimi’s potential inclusion offers a different dynamic to the attack, providing a proven goal-scoring threat even in a substitute role. The loss of Saibari will undoubtedly challenge Morocco’s attacking options, but Rahimi’s form suggests they have a capable replacement.
