Manchester City are nearing the completion of a deal to sign Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. Negotiations between the two clubs have been ongoing since the end of the 2025-26 season, with a breakthrough appearing imminent.
Anderson has emerged as a key central midfielder in the Premier League over the past year, and his performances for England at the World Cup are anticipated to further increase his value. He recently featured prominently in England’s 4-2 victory over Croatia, prompting City to accelerate discussions despite Anderson’s current international commitments in North America.
Manchester United had also expressed interest in Anderson, but are reportedly unwilling to meet Forest’s asking price, believed to be around €145 million. United have instead secured Atalanta midfielder Ederson for €45 million and are pursuing West Ham United’s Mateus Fernandes as alternative options.
City have been in advanced talks with Forest for weeks, and Anderson is understood to be keen on joining the reigning Premier League champions. He is expected to be the first signing under new manager Enzo Maresca, who is set to replace Pep Guardiola. Romano stated on his X account that the deal is “at the final stages after work behind the scenes,” with a medical potentially taking place in the US.
Last season, Anderson scored four goals and provided five assists in 50 appearances for Nottingham Forest. He is widely tipped to fill the void left by Bernardo Silva, who recently moved to Real Madrid on a free transfer. While Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez was also linked with a move to the Etihad, he too has agreed to join Real Madrid, initiating further negotiations regarding a transfer fee.
This acquisition would bolster City’s midfield options, providing Maresca with a dynamic and proven Premier League player as he begins his tenure. The move represents a significant investment for City, signaling their intent to maintain dominance in English football.
