Tottenham Hotspur have entered the race to sign Matheus Fernandes from West Ham United, challenging Manchester United’s interest in the Portuguese midfielder. The 21-year-old is expected to depart the Hammers following their relegation from the Premier League, and United had previously been considered frontrunners for his signature.
According to The Athletic, Tottenham could submit a bid for Fernandes, who is currently valued at £80 million (€92.1m). Spurs are simultaneously pursuing Sandro Tonali from Newcastle United, with a fee exceeding €100 million anticipated, though Manchester City are also monitoring that situation. Fernandes made 32 appearances in the Premier League last season, scoring 5 goals and providing 3 assists, establishing himself as a key player despite West Ham’s struggles.
In separate news, Liverpool have seen a €100 million offer for RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande rejected. Fabrizio Romano reports that Liverpool proposed a deal of €90 million plus €10 million in add-ons for the 19-year-old, but Leipzig are holding out for a fee closer to €120 million, potentially increasing based on Diomande’s performance in the upcoming World Cup. Liverpool are currently considered to be ahead of Paris Saint-Germain in the pursuit of the winger.
Arsenal’s initial bid for Leicester City’s 16-year-old prospect Jeremy Monga has also been turned down. The Telegraph reports that Monga prefers a move to the Premier League champions, but Leicester are expected to sell due to financial constraints, despite being unable to offer the player a professional contract until his 17th birthday on July 10th. Arsenal are expected to return with an improved offer.
Further bolstering their attacking options, Arsenal are preparing an opening bid for Paris Saint-Germain forward Bradley Barcola, according to The Independent. Mikel Arteta’s side view the 23-year-old as an immediate upgrade to their starting XI, and PSG are reportedly open to a sale if a suitable offer arrives, particularly after Barcola scored in France’s recent World Cup victory over Senegal.
