Manchester City are intensifying their efforts to sign Lille midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi, despite the French club raising their asking price to €100 million (£85m; $114m), according to reports from The Athletic. The Cityzens are also reportedly keen on Chelsea right-back Malo Gusto, with a potential combined outlay of £145 million anticipated.
The pursuit of Bouaddi comes as Manchester City prepare for a new era under manager Enzo Maresca, aiming to reclaim the Premier League title after a three-year gap. Sporting director Hugo Viana is tasked with strengthening the midfield, particularly with speculation surrounding a potential departure for Rodri to Real Madrid.
Bouaddi, 18, has already made 96 senior appearances for Lille and impressed at the recent World Cup with Morocco, reaching the quarter-finals. His performances have attracted interest from several top clubs, including Arsenal, Manchester United, and Paris Saint-Germain, but City are currently leading the chase. While some clubs have explored the possibility of a loan deal until 2027, City are prioritizing an immediate addition to their squad.
To fund these potential acquisitions, Manchester City are planning a significant player exodus, with up to 11 players potentially leaving the Etihad Stadium this summer. Players such as Nico Gonzalez, Mateo Kovacic, and Tijjani Reijnders are considered likely departures, while James Trafford is expected to be allowed to move on. Ruben Dias has also attracted interest from Real Madrid. Kalvin Phillips and Jack Grealish could also be sold if suitable offers are received.
Alongside Bouaddi, City are “big admirers” of Gusto, though his £60 million price tag is seen as a potential obstacle. However, the club have reportedly received a positive indication from the player regarding a potential transfer. These moves signal a proactive approach from Manchester City as they look to build a squad capable of challenging for domestic and European honours under their new manager.
