Inter Milan are back in the transfer market following the failed medical of Israeli right-back Anan Khalaili, according to reports in Italy. The 24-year-old arrived in Milan to complete his medical tests but was deemed unfit, leaving a void on the right side of defense for coach Andrea Chivu ahead of the team’s pre-season retreat on July 16th.
Inter officials Ausilio, Marotta, and Baccin are now focused on securing reinforcements, with the right-back position identified as a priority. The club had initially turned to Khalaili after reconsidering a move for another target, but his failed medical has prompted a swift change in strategy. Marotta expressed confidence in Ausilio’s ability to find a suitable replacement, stating he is “brave and knows what to do.”
Guéla Doué of Strasbourg has emerged as a leading candidate. The 24-year-old recently impressed at the World Cup with the Ivory Coast and is the older brother of Paris Saint-Germain winger Désiré Doué. Doué was also previously linked with a move to AC Milan. However, Strasbourg are reportedly demanding a fee of €40 million, a figure Inter consider excessive. The Nerazzurri are hoping to negotiate a lower price or explore alternative options.
In addition to the right-back search, Inter are also looking to bolster their central defense. The departures of Francesco Acerbi and Stefan de Vrij at the end of their contracts, coupled with Benjamin Pavard’s potential exit and Manuel Akanji’s delayed return due to World Cup commitments, have created a need for a new center-back. While a move for Lorenzo Solet has cooled, Trevoh Chalobah of Chelsea remains a possibility, though he is also attracting interest from Como. John Stones, recently released by Manchester City, was also proposed, but is currently participating in the World Cup and will face Lautaro Martinez in the semi-final on July 15th.
The club aims to resolve both defensive vacancies before the start of the pre-season training camp, ensuring Chivu has settled options in key positions.
