Manchester United are considering a €30 million move for Borussia Dortmund right-back Julian Ryerson, according to German transfer reporter Patrik Berger. The potential transfer is contingent on the departure of current United defender Noussair Mazraoui.
Michael Carrick is set to be formally announced as Manchester United’s permanent manager in the coming days, following a successful interim period that saw the club secure Champions League qualification with a third-place finish. With managerial clarity established, United are now focusing on reshaping the squad to fit Carrick’s vision, with both midfield and defence identified as areas for improvement.
Ryerson, 28, has enjoyed an impressive season with Dortmund, registering 15 assists in the Bundesliga. United view the Norwegian international as a potential upgrade on their ‘backup RB’ options, though Dortmund do not consider him an essential player. This suggests they would be open to offers.
Mazraoui, who joined United from Bayern Munich in 2024, has struggled for consistent playing time under Carrick, making only ten Premier League starts this season. While previously considered a reliable and versatile option, his limited appearances suggest he may be allowed to leave Old Trafford if a suitable offer arrives. Juventus have previously expressed interest in the Moroccan international.
Carrick has largely favoured Diogo Dalot at right-back, but Ryerson’s attacking capabilities could provide a different dynamic to the position. His assist record demonstrates a clear threat in the final third, potentially offering United more width and creativity. Should Mazraoui depart and Juventus not follow up on their previous interest, United may actively pursue a deal for Ryerson to bolster their defensive options.
