Manchester United have begun pursuing a deal for West Ham winger Crysencio Summerville, valued at £50 million, and are also considering a second bid for Mateus Fernandes, potentially taking their total spending on Hammers players to £130 million. The initial focus has been on Fernandes, reportedly valued around £80 million, but United’s attention has expanded to include Summerville after positive reports and enquiries.
United’s pursuit of midfielders has faced obstacles, with Elliot Anderson of Nottingham Forest and Sandro Tonali proving too expensive, with the latter now attracting strong interest from Tottenham Hotspur. This has shifted their focus towards the London Stadium, identifying Fernandes and Summerville as key targets to bolster their attacking options. Reports suggest Fernandes favours a move to Old Trafford despite interest from Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid.
Summerville, who recently featured for the Netherlands at the World Cup, joined West Ham after a successful spell at Leeds United, where he scored 19 goals and provided nine assists in 43 games during the 2023-24 season. Phil Hay, formerly of Leeds United coverage for The Athletic, highlighted Summerville’s pace and ability to cut inside and shoot, noting his effectiveness as a wide forward. Despite a less impactful season with West Ham, his stock remains high.
David Ornstein of The Athletic reported that United have enquired about Summerville’s situation, acknowledging the potential £50 million price tag. The move for Summerville is also potentially linked to the future of Marcus Rashford, whose loan spell at Barcelona has concluded without a permanent transfer. Securing both Fernandes and Summerville would significantly strengthen United’s attacking options ahead of the new season, providing competition and depth in wide areas.
