Manchester United are heavily interested in signing Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa, with reports suggesting a potential fee of up to £115 million. The 23-year-old winger enjoyed a successful season with Villa, scoring 14 goals and providing 12 assists in 55 appearances, including a goal in their Europa League final victory. Journalist Ben Jacobs reports that Villa are prepared to sell Rogers this summer if they receive an offer deemed satisfactory, potentially to aid their financial position and allow the player to compete at a higher level.
Competition for Rogers’ signature is fierce, with Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain, and Arsenal also expressing strong interest. Arsenal are described as ‘serious contenders’ and are reportedly stepping up their pursuit, with Mikel Arteta and sporting director Andrea Berta both approving the potential signing. Despite the interest, Rogers is said to be ‘calm’ about his situation at Villa, but a substantial offer could prove too difficult to resist.
United view Rogers as a key target for the left wing position, but his versatility means he could also challenge Bruno Fernandes in the No 10 role in the future. The potential investment in Rogers signals a willingness from United to spend significantly this summer, with reports suggesting manager Michael Carrick could oversee the arrival of as many as seven or eight new players. The club is reportedly targeting reinforcements in multiple positions, including two midfielders, a centre-forward, and players for each line of the defence, as well as a goalkeeper.
Alongside the pursuit of Rogers, United are reportedly in advanced talks to sign Ederson from Atalanta for £38 million. They are also making a ‘final push’ to secure the services of Sandro Tonali from Newcastle, with an agreement said to be ‘close’. Tonali is valued at around £87 million by Newcastle. Carrick’s team are focused on securing value for money in the transfer market, acknowledging the risk of overspending when making multiple acquisitions in a single window. These potential additions would represent a significant overhaul of the squad and a clear statement of intent for the upcoming season.
