Manchester United are monitoring the situation of Real Madrid midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni, with reports suggesting the Spanish club may now be open to a sale. According to transfer correspondent Fraser Fletcher, United have already begun discussions regarding a potential move for the France international.
This interest comes after United secured a deal for Atalanta’s Ederson Silva and with co-owners INEOS planning further midfield reinforcements. Previous targets, such as Elliot Anderson of Nottingham Forest, proved too expensive, leading the club to explore alternative options including West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes, who is valued at £80 million by the Hammers.
Tchouameni has been identified as United’s ‘dream’ midfield target, with Fabrizio Romano stating the club believe he could offer a similar presence to Casemiro. However, Romano also highlighted the difficulty of the deal, noting that Real Madrid previously considered Tchouameni untouchable and that his high salary presents a further obstacle.
Recent reports indicate a shift in Madrid’s stance, potentially linked to their pursuit of Enzo Fernandez from Chelsea, as well as interest in Fernandes and Rodri. TEAMtalk’s Graeme Bailey reports that Madrid will now listen to offers of €100 million (£87m) for Tchouameni.
BBC Sport journalist Simon Stone acknowledged the challenge of the transfer but pointed to United’s history of securing difficult deals, citing the successful re-signing of Cristiano Ronaldo in 2021 as evidence. Stone also raised questions about potential wage demands and whether United would be willing to overpay for a player Madrid might be keen to offload.
Liverpool have also been linked with a move for Tchouameni, adding competition for his signature. While a deal remains complex, the evolving situation at Real Madrid has opened the door for a potential Premier League transfer.
