Manchester United are actively engaged in discussions with Bruno Fernandes regarding a new contract at Old Trafford, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. The club is keen to secure the Portuguese midfielder’s long-term future, with Fernandes reportedly open to remaining with the Red Devils. The 31-year-old has been in excellent form this season, registering nine goals and 22 assists in 37 appearances across all competitions.
Romano reports that Manchester United are “going strong” to convince Fernandes to extend his current deal, which runs until 2027 with an option for a further year. The ownership, management, and coaching staff are all united in their desire to retain the influential playmaker, recognizing his importance both on and off the pitch. Previous reports from TEAMtalk indicated plans to offer Fernandes fresh terms earlier in May.
Alongside efforts to retain Fernandes, Manchester United are also monitoring RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande. Transfer insider Graeme Bailey first reported the club’s interest in December 2025, and the Ivorian international remains on their radar. However, they face competition from Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain for the 22-year-old’s signature.
RB Leipzig are reportedly reluctant to sell Diomande, valuing him at approximately €100 million (£86.2m, $116.4m). Journalist Ben Jacobs has highlighted the challenge INEOS will face in securing the winger, given the interest from other European powerhouses. Leipzig are hoping to convince Diomande to sign a contract extension, but a sale has not been ruled out. Securing Diomande would add significant attacking depth to United’s squad, providing competition for places and potentially long-term cover.
Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has suggested the club consider a move for free agent Robert Lewandowski, praising the Polish striker’s experience and potential to mentor young forward Rasmus Højlund. Ferdinand believes Lewandowski’s presence could significantly benefit Højlund’s development.
