Manchester United have initiated discussions with West Ham United regarding a potential transfer for Netherlands winger Crysencio Summerville, according to reports in the Daily Mail. This move comes after the club missed out on two midfield targets, Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali, who both opted for moves to Tottenham Hotspur in a combined deal worth €216 million (£185m).
United had also been interested in Elliot Anderson, but the player instead chose to join Manchester City for a fee of €134 million (£116m) earlier this week. Sources at BBC Sport indicate that the club is adopting a measured approach to the summer transfer window, prioritizing value for money in their acquisitions.
Summerville impressed during the recent World Cup tournament, scoring two goals and providing two assists in four appearances for the Netherlands. He was also a standout performer for West Ham during the 2025-26 season, despite the club’s eventual relegation from the Premier League. The 24-year-old registered seven goals and three assists in 34 games across all competitions for the Hammers.
Between January and February of last year, Summerville enjoyed a particularly prolific run of form, scoring six goals in seven matches before a hamstring injury sustained in an FA Cup tie against Brentford hampered his progress. Despite his injury, his performances drew attention from several European clubs, with the Mail reporting that United now face competition for his signature. The Athletic previously reported in June that United valued Summerville at approximately €58 million (£50m).
United are also nearing the completion of a deal for Atalanta midfielder Ederson, having agreed to a €40.5 million (£35m) fee in June. However, Ederson is currently with the Brazil national team at the World Cup and is yet to undergo a medical, although he has stated that the transfer is “practically almost all sorted.”
