Manchester United have begun discussions to sign Atalanta midfielder Ederson Silva, with the move gaining momentum after Atletico Madrid withdrew their interest, according to reports from Italy. The 26-year-old Brazilian has been a key figure for Atalanta since joining from Salernitana in 2022, scoring 15 goals in 178 appearances across all competitions and helping the club to a Europa League title.
Atalanta are prepared to sell Ederson this summer as he has declined to sign a contract extension beyond June 2027. He had previously agreed personal terms with Atletico Madrid in March, but the Spanish club have shifted their focus to Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Joao Gomes. This change in strategy has alerted United and Arsenal, with both clubs now pursuing the Brazilian.
Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla reports ‘significant movement’ regarding Ederson’s future, stating that United are working to finalize agreements with his representatives before initiating official talks with Atalanta. The ‘excellent relationship’ between the two clubs, evidenced by previous transfers involving Amad Diallo and Rasmus Hojlund, is expected to facilitate negotiations. Transfer reporter Matteo Morretto claims Ederson has ‘already said yes’ to a move to Old Trafford.
Fabrizio Romano confirmed United’s interest, stating Ederson is on their list of midfield targets, though not necessarily their top priority. Atalanta are seeking a fee of between €40-50 million (£35-43m) for the player, who has one year remaining on his current contract. Liverpool have also reportedly held talks for Ederson, adding further competition for his signature. United are also considering Carlos Baleba and Aurelien Tchouameni, but Ederson represents a more affordable option should they pursue either of those targets. The arrival of Ederson would provide further depth and quality to United’s midfield options.
