Manchester United are now considering a summer move for Fulham midfielder Sander Berge, according to a report by The Athletic. This comes as United seek to bolster their midfield options following a deal for Atalanta’s Ederson Silva and with other targets, such as West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes and Leeds United’s Tyler Adams, also under consideration.
Berge, 28, has become a consistent performer in the Premier League since joining Fulham in 2022 from Burnley for a reported £25 million. He is currently under contract with the London club until 2029, with an option for a further year’s extension. Fulham would likely seek a profit on their initial investment should they agree to sell.
Prior to his move to Fulham, Berge was a target for Liverpool, with former manager Jurgen Klopp reportedly impressed by the player’s qualities after a Champions League match between Liverpool and Genk in 2020. Berge himself publicly stated in 2019 a desire to play for Liverpool, describing playing at Anfield as a “dream”.
The Norway international has established himself as a reliable defensive midfielder and is expected to feature in the national team’s squad for the 2026 World Cup. United had previously shown interest in Berge when he moved from Burnley to Fulham, and INEOS, the club’s co-owners, are now revisiting that interest. A successful transfer would add further depth to Erik ten Hag’s midfield options ahead of the new season and provide competition for places.
United have reportedly decided against pursuing a deal for Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson due to the club’s £130 million asking price, making Berge a potentially more attainable target.
