Manchester United are showing “serious attention” towards West Ham winger Crysencio Summerville as a potential summer signing, according to The Athletic. This interest has grown following Summerville’s performance in the 2026 World Cup, where he scored in the Netherlands’ 2-2 draw with Japan.
West Ham’s recent relegation from the Premier League has made Summerville a more appealing target for several clubs, and United are understood to be among those considering a move for the 24-year-old. The club has reportedly enquired about Summerville’s availability, with West Ham valuing him at approximately £50 million (€58m) and the player remaining under contract until 2029.
The potential pursuit of Summerville is heavily influenced by the future of Marcus Rashford. Rashford is set to return to Old Trafford after Barcelona decided against activating their €30m option to buy him permanently. Interestingly, The Athletic reports that Rashford would prefer to see out the remaining two years of his contract with United rather than move to another English club.
This preference from Rashford could hinder United’s ability to sign Summerville or another winger, as cashing in on Rashford’s wages is seen as a priority. Rashford has a release clause of £40m (€46m), but United are open to negotiation, with a return to Barcelona still a possibility. Summerville joined West Ham in 2024 from Leeds United for a fee of €29.3m, having initially moved to England with Leeds in 2021.
Last season, the Dutch international scored five goals and provided two assists for West Ham. United have other winger targets, including Yan Diomande and Bradley Barcola, who are currently ranked higher on their shortlist. However, Summerville’s more manageable price tag could prove attractive, particularly if Rashford stays and the club completes a planned €45m move for midfielder Ederson.
United are also interested in West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes as a midfield target, but his asking price of over €80m is currently considered too high. The signing of a winger is a lower priority than strengthening the midfield, and the club are keen to reduce their wage bill by selling Rashford. This complex situation could see United adjust their transfer strategy depending on Rashford’s final decision.
