Manchester United have been presented with the opportunity to sign Juventus defender Pierre Kalulu this summer, according to reports. The 25-year-old has also attracted interest from Liverpool and Aston Villa, but a potential sale price of around €40 million (£34.5m) has emerged, despite Juventus’ initial reluctance to let him leave.
Kalulu joined Juventus from AC Milan in 2022, initially on loan before making the move permanent for approximately £12m. He has since become a key figure in the Serie A side, making 89 appearances over the past two seasons. His performances have drawn attention from several Premier League clubs seeking to strengthen their defensive options ahead of next season.
Liverpool are reportedly particularly keen on acquiring Kalulu, identifying him as a ‘top defensive target’. However, Manchester United and Aston Villa have also been informed of the possibility of a transfer, with Caught Offside reporting that all three clubs have been given an ‘exciting transfer opportunity’. Juventus are said to be hesitant to sell, but the financial incentive of a £34.5m offer may prove too difficult to resist.
Manchester United are preparing for a significant summer overhaul under the new ownership of INEOS, with a focus on strengthening multiple areas of the squad. While midfield reinforcements are currently prioritised, the possibility of adding another centre-back remains open, even after Harry Maguire recently signed a contract extension. Former United player Paul Parker has publicly stated his belief that the club needs to move on from Maguire to progress, suggesting a new central defender is a necessity.
Should Kalulu arrive at Old Trafford, he would provide competition and depth in a position that has seen inconsistency in recent seasons. His experience in Serie A and established role at Juventus would likely make him an immediate contributor to Erik ten Hag’s squad. The potential transfer could signal a shift in United’s defensive strategy as they aim to return to Champions League contention.
