Manchester United have no intention of selling midfielder Mason Mount to AC Milan this summer, despite reports in Italy suggesting a potential £21.5 million bid could be forthcoming. The news comes as new AC Milan manager Ruben Amorim, who previously worked with Mount at Old Trafford, was linked with a reunion with the player.
Reports had indicated that Mount had been offered to Milan, with Amorim giving the green light to begin negotiations. Milan recently agreed a club-record deal for PSG striker Goncalo Ramos, signaling their ambition for a significant summer transfer window. However, according to Chris Wheeler of the Daily Mail, these claims are inaccurate.
Wheeler reports that United are unaware of any discussions regarding Mount’s potential departure and are not actively seeking to move him on. The 25-year-old, who joined United from Chelsea for £60 million last year, also has no desire to leave the club. He has been working with a personal coach in Spain to ensure he is fully fit for the start of pre-season training next week.
Mount’s time at Manchester United has been hampered by injuries since his arrival, limiting his impact on the pitch. Despite this, his versatility is highly valued by Michael Carrick, who views him as a valuable member of the squad. Amorim evidently rates Mount highly, having previously coached him, but will have to look elsewhere to bolster his midfield options.
The situation suggests Manchester United are committed to giving Mount a proper opportunity to establish himself in the team, despite the initial speculation surrounding a move to Italy. This decision reinforces United’s current squad-building plans and suggests they are not willing to let go of players they believe can contribute to future success.
