Manchester United are on the verge of completing a deal for Atalanta midfielder Ederson, with the transfer expected to be their first signing of the summer window. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported that discussions between the clubs are at a very advanced stage, with personal terms already agreed with the player.
Romano indicated that the fee is likely to be around €40 million, contrary to some reports suggesting a higher valuation. He stated that new leadership at Atalanta is facilitating the finalisation of the agreement, and unless unforeseen circumstances arise, Ederson will become a United player. The 24-year-old Brazilian has been a key component in Atalanta’s midfield, contributing both defensively and offensively.
In addition to the pursuit of Ederson, Manchester United have received a boost in their interest in AC Milan winger Rafael Leao, who has publicly expressed his desire for a new challenge. Speaking to Sport TV, Leao acknowledged his positive experience with Milan but stated his ambition to play in a new league. He emphasized that he feels he has achieved his goals with the Italian club and is now seeking a fresh opportunity.
Leao’s comments suggest he would be receptive to a move to Old Trafford, where he is seen as a potential solution to United’s need for a dynamic left winger. The Portugal international has established himself as one of Serie A’s most exciting talents, known for his pace, dribbling ability, and goal-scoring threat.
However, United’s pursuit of midfield reinforcements has hit a potential snag, as Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has ruled out the sale of Aurelien Tchouameni. Despite reports of a bust-up with teammate Federico Valverde and speculation linking Tchouameni with a move to Manchester, Perez confirmed in an interview with El Pais that both players will remain at the Bernabeu.
United are also monitoring other defensive options, with Atletico Madrid’s Marc Pubill added to their list of targets, according to CaughtOffside. The 22-year-old Spain international has impressed under Diego Simeone, but Atletico are unwilling to sell and have set a €500 million release clause, making a deal highly improbable.
