Manchester United consider Myles Lewis-Skelly amid midfield and contract moves
Manchester United have been offered the chance to sign Arsenal's Myles Lewis-Skelly this summer, according to the Daily Mail. The 20-year-old, who was nominated for the PFA Young Player of the Year award last season, has seen limited minutes at the Emirates and intermediaries have presented his name to Old Trafford officials.
United are in the market for a long-term option at left-back as a successor to Luke Shaw, and Lewis-Skelly is now under consideration. The offer suggests the young defender is seeking more regular first-team football, with Riccardo Calafiori and Piero Hincapie currently ahead of him in Mikel Arteta's plans. While Arsenal are reluctant to sell a highly-rated academy graduate, their hand could be forced if the player pushes for an exit.
This development comes as United's search for midfield reinforcements continues. The Athletic reports that the club has 'concerns' over a potential move for Newcastle's Sandro Tonali, with the significant fee required and past gambling issues contributing to doubts. United had identified Tonali as a priority last summer but balked at the cost, and are now considering other options, with Elliot Anderson said to remain a top target.
Meanwhile, the club is working to secure the future of captain Bruno Fernandes. Despite interest from Paris Saint-Germain, United will not consider a sale unless they receive an offer of at least €70 million and are instead focused on finalising a new contract for the 31-year-old Portuguese international.
In other business, Fabrizio Romano reports that a verbal agreement is in place to extend Harry Maguire's contract by one year, with an option for a further season. Manuel Ugarte is expected to depart after a disappointing spell, with Juventus showing interest, while the outgoing Casemiro is the subject of a tug-of-war between Al-Nassr, where Cristiano Ronaldo is lobbying for his signature, and Inter Miami.
