Mason Mount has declared winning the Premier League with Manchester United a primary objective for next season. The England midfielder, speaking at a charity event organised by Make-A-Wish UK, told the Daily Mail that he believes the squad is capable of mounting a serious title challenge despite their current position. Mount's comments come during a period of improved form for United under the interim management of Michael Carrick.
Mount, who joined United from Chelsea last summer in a deal worth up to £60 million, acknowledged the ambition might seem distant but insisted it is the necessary mindset. "Yes it's an objective: I want to win the Premier League," Mount said. "It might seem a bit far off, but you have to have that mentality to really push yourself as a team. We've already shown what we're capable of against the big teams. So we can do it next season." The 25-year-old has endured a stop-start first campaign at Old Trafford, hampered by injuries, making his public show of faith in the project a notable statement.
He specifically credited the impact of coach Michael Carrick, who has taken temporary charge following Erik ten Hag's departure. "I really like his way of working and his vision of the game. He's very calm. He has experience and he knows what it's like to be a player," Mount explained. "It's that confidence he has brought and I think everyone has reacted well." According to reports, United have won nine, drawn two, and lost just two of the thirteen matches since Carrick's return to the dugout, a run that has solidified their position in third place and put them on the brink of a return to the Champions League after a two-year absence.
Mount's own future remains a topic of discussion, with his role under a potential permanent manager yet to be defined. However, his commitment to achieving major honours at the club is clear. For Manchester United, securing a top-four finish this season was the immediate priority, but Mount's remarks highlight the elevated expectations that will accompany their Champions League return. The club's summer activity, including the appointment of a full-time manager and further squad reinforcement, will now be viewed through the lens of mounting a credible title bid, as demanded by their ambitious midfielder.
