Liverpool are poised to make a significant offer for Sporting CP winger Francisco Trincao, according to super-agent Jorge Mendes. Mendes has reportedly assured both the player and Sporting that a substantial proposal from Liverpool is forthcoming before the close of the summer transfer window.
This potential move comes as Liverpool seek to bolster their attacking options following the departure of Mohamed Salah and inconsistent form from Cody Gakpo. The club has already secured the signing of Victor Munoz from Osasuna, with the deal announced on Thursday evening, subject to work permit and international clearance. Munoz, currently with Spain at the World Cup, completed a medical and signed a long-term contract.
However, the addition of Munoz will not deter Liverpool from pursuing a specialist right-winger, with Yan Diomande of RB Leipzig remaining their primary target. A deal for Diomande could prove challenging due to Leipzig’s high asking price, leading Liverpool to explore alternative options, including Trincao. Reports suggest Liverpool are the ‘closest’ to bringing Trincao back to England, despite a previous unsuccessful loan spell with Wolves in the 2021-22 season.
The potential bid for Trincao is expected to be near his €60 million (£50.5m) release clause at the José Alvalade Stadium. While Sporting CP have not yet received a formal proposal from Liverpool, they are understood to be at the forefront of the queue for the Portugal international. The arrival of Andoni Iraola as Liverpool’s new head coach has not diminished the club’s interest in Trincao.
Liverpool have also submitted an improved proposal to Leipzig for Diomande, as reported by David Ornstein of The Athletic, though Paris Saint-Germain are also monitoring the player. The club are also considering a move for Juventus midfielder Thuram, who could be available for between £35m and £39m, with the player reportedly favouring a move to the Premier League.
