The summer transfer window continues to see significant activity across Europe’s top five leagues, with over €500 million spent on completed deals today, July 17th. Several clubs have made multiple additions as they prepare for the upcoming season.
Tottenham Hotspur remain the biggest spenders of the summer, having reacted to consecutive disappointing campaigns with a substantial outlay of €267 million. Their acquisitions include Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes, Jan Paul van Hecke, Andrew Robertson, Marcos Senesi, and Martin Dubravka. Arsenal have also been active, securing Piero Hincapie on a permanent deal after a successful loan spell, and adding Illan Meslier on a free transfer from Leeds United, alongside an agreement for Club Brugge’s Christos Tzolis.
Chelsea have also been reshaping their squad, bringing in Marco Palestra, Geovany Quenda, Emmanuel Emegha, Dastan Satpaev, and Denner. The Blues have also generated revenue through sales, with Marc Cucurella moving to Real Madrid, Andrey Santos joining Manchester United, and Tyrique George transferring to Everton. Youngster Jesse Derry has departed on loan to Sporting CP.
Manchester City have broken their club record to sign Elliot Anderson, supplementing the arrivals of Mathys Detourbet and Jeremy Monga. Manchester United, under Michael Carrick, have added Youri Tielemans and Karl Darlow to their ranks, in addition to Santos from Chelsea. Liverpool are poised to miss out on Yan Diomande, who prefers a move to Paris Saint-Germain, but have still secured Victor Munoz from Osasuna and Jeremy Jacquet from Stade Rennais.
Elsewhere in Europe, Barcelona have signed Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United for a fee of €80 million, while Real Madrid have added Cucurella, Bernardo Silva, Ibrahima Konate, and Denzel Dumfries to their squad. Bayern Munich have completed the signing of Nathaniel Brown from Eintracht Frankfurt, and AC Milan have secured the services of Goncalo Ramos from PSG for €74 million. Several smaller deals were also completed today, including Johan Manzambi’s move from Freiburg to Aston Villa for €60 million, and Maxime Esteve’s transfer from Burnley to RB Leipzig for €25 million.
These moves indicate a proactive approach from many of Europe’s top clubs as they look to strengthen their squads ahead of what promises to be a competitive season. The significant investment demonstrates the financial power of these leagues and the desire to compete at the highest level.
