Manchester United experienced a surprisingly successful transfer window in the summer of 2025, spending around €250 million on four new players despite initial concerns about financial constraints. Sir Jim Ratcliffe had publicly voiced fears about the club’s financial stability, yet the Red Devils ultimately secured the signings of Matheus Cunha, Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo, and Senne Lammens.
Benjamin Sesko joined from RB Leipzig for an initial fee of €76.5 million, a deal that could rise to €85 million with additional bonuses. The Slovenian forward reportedly prioritized a move to Old Trafford, even accepting a lower salary to do so. While Sesko struggled initially to adapt to the Premier League, he ultimately contributed 12 goals across all competitions, often as a substitute, and played a part in securing Champions League football for United. However, failing to reach the 15-goal target set by former coach Ruben Amorim, he receives a 'C' rating.
Matheus Cunha arrived from Wolves for €74.2 million, triggering his release clause. The Brazilian quickly became a regular starter, though his goalscoring form was initially slow. Cunha finished the season with 10 goals in 33 league appearances, starting 29 games, and provided more overall contribution than Sesko, earning a 'B' rating.
Bryan Mbeumo also signed for €75 million from Brentford, proving to be another Premier League-proven addition. After a protracted negotiation, United secured the Cameroon international, who delivered 12 goals in 34 games across all competitions despite a spell away at the African Cup of Nations. Mbeumo’s consistency and impact earn him a 'B' rating, with the assessment noting he could have scored even more with improved finishing.
The most understated success of the window was the arrival of Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp for €21 million. The young Belgian goalkeeper brought a much-needed calmness and assurance to United’s defense, exceeding expectations and establishing himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League. Lammens, seen as a potential heir to Thibaut Courtois, receives an 'A' rating for his outstanding performances.
These signings collectively represent a positive shift for Manchester United in the transfer market, setting a foundation for future success and solidifying their return to European competition.
