Milan are currently evaluating the futures of several players who were out on loan last season, with new coach Paulo Fonseca heavily involved in the decision-making process, according to reports in Italy. The club is looking to optimize its squad, balancing the need to strengthen with budgetary constraints.
Yunus Musah and Samuel Chukwueze are among those whose loan spells are under scrutiny. Pobega, Colombo, and Jimenez have already secured permanent moves to their respective loan clubs following the fulfillment of pre-agreed conditions. However, Bennacer, Musah, and Chukwueze are set to return to Milan, though their long-term futures remain uncertain.
Musah spent last season on loan at Atalanta, but failed to establish himself as a regular starter under coach Gian Piero Gasperini. He accumulated less than 1,000 minutes of playing time across all competitions, scoring two goals, and did not earn a call-up to the Argentina national team for the World Cup. Milan may consider keeping Musah, particularly as Fofana and Loftus-Cheek are potential departures, which could free up funds and a spot in midfield. Fonseca is reportedly drawn to Musah’s direct style of play and willingness to make forward runs.
Chukwueze’s situation is similarly complex. Fulham had initially expressed interest in triggering his release clause, reportedly around €24 million, but ultimately decided against it. The Nigerian international’s technical ability is not in question, but concerns remain about his defensive contribution and consistency. Fonseca’s system relies heavily on wingers contributing in both phases of play, and Chukwueze will need to demonstrate a greater commitment to tracking back. Milan are open to offers, and Fulham could revisit their interest if a significant discount is offered.
Other loan returnees, including Bondo and Terracciano, are expected to be moved on again, while the futures of younger players like Camarda, Zeroli, and Comotto will be assessed in relation to squad list requirements. Fonseca is undertaking a thorough review of the entire squad as he looks to rebuild Milan’s team.
