AC Milan are set to offer new contracts to promising young talents Francesco Camarda and Christian Comotto, extending their deals until 2031, according to reports in Italy. Both players, aged 18, will participate in the club’s pre-season tour and will have the opportunity to impress new manager Paulo Fonseca.
The potential for Camarda and Comotto to remain with the first team represents a shift in Milan’s approach to youth development. Traditionally, players of their age would likely be sent out on loan to gain experience, but the club’s current restructuring and Fonseca’s willingness to integrate young players have created a new pathway. Milan’s squad was short on numbers last season, and several departures are anticipated, opening up opportunities for academy graduates.
Camarda is a centre-forward, while Comotto is a versatile midfielder capable of playing in multiple positions. Both players are considered talented prospects, and their inclusion in the pre-season tour – including the upcoming trip to Asia – will allow Fonseca to assess their capabilities. The club is undergoing significant changes under ownership led by Gerry Cardinale, with a focus on developing players from within the academy.
Milan’s midfield and attack are undergoing considerable transformation, with questions surrounding potential signings like Luka Modric and Nicolas Gimenez, as well as the futures of players such as Fofana and Loftus-Cheek. This situation could create space for Camarda and Comotto to establish themselves in the first team. They are also eligible for both lists in UEFA competitions, offering further tactical flexibility. Representatives of both players, Giuseppe Riso and Marianna Mecacci, have recently met with club officials to discuss Fonseca’s plans. The club intends to evaluate their performances during pre-season before making a final decision, but the opportunity for both players to remain at Milan is significant.
