Both AC Milan and AS Roma are closely following the situation surrounding Atalanta striker Gianluca Scamacca, with a potential summer transfer under consideration. The 25-year-old’s current contract with Atalanta is set to expire in 13 months, and negotiations for an extension have reportedly stalled, prompting interest from other clubs.
Scamacca joined Atalanta ahead of the 2023-24 season and has demonstrated his goalscoring ability in Serie A, though recent form has seen him occasionally sidelined in favour of Nikola Krstovic under manager Raffaele Palladino. This shift in playing time, coupled with the expiring contract, increases the likelihood of a departure during the upcoming summer transfer window. The potential arrival of Maurizio Sarri as Atalanta’s new manager could further impact the club’s attacking plans.
Roma are seeking to bolster their attacking options in preparation for Champions League football next season, having already added Donyell Malen in January. Milan share a similar need for attacking reinforcement, as Niclas Füllkrug has not consistently delivered the desired impact since his arrival. The Rossoneri are also mindful of squad composition rules, specifically the need to increase the number of Italian players within their ranks.
Atalanta have reportedly valued Scamacca at around €30 million. This figure is considered attainable for both Milan and Roma, and his current wage of €3 million per year is also within their budgetary reach. For Milan, acquiring Scamacca would not only address their need for a prolific striker but also contribute to fulfilling Serie A’s squad registration requirements regarding domestic players. The club views this as a potential opportunity to address two needs with a single signing.
Both clubs are expected to compete for Scamacca’s signature, with the outcome potentially dependent on their respective successes this season – both are vying for Champions League qualification – and the direction of transfer strategy under new leadership at Milan.
