Henrikh Mkhitaryan has extended his contract with Inter Milan until 2026, the club confirmed on Wednesday, postponing potential retirement plans. The Armenian international, who was out of contract this summer, will remain with the Serie A champions for a further two years. Mkhitaryan had previously indicated his intention to retire after his spell at Inter, but left the door open to continuing if the club wished to retain his services.
Speaking to La Repubblica in June 2025, Mkhitaryan stated, “After Inter, I will stop. [...] If they don’t kick me out, I will stay.” This sentiment appears to have been reciprocated by Inter, who have clearly valued the 37-year-old’s contribution to the team. He joined Inter in 2022 following a career that included spells at Borussia Dortmund, Manchester United, Arsenal, and AS Roma.
Mkhitaryan has become a consistent performer for Inter, making 187 appearances across all competitions and playing a key role in their recent successes. He has won two Serie A titles with the Nerazzurri, in 2024 and 2026, establishing himself as a valuable squad member. Last season, the midfielder featured in 39 matches across all competitions, starting 22 of those games, demonstrating his continued fitness and importance to the team.
The extension provides Inter with experienced depth in midfield, and allows Mkhitaryan to continue playing at a high level. The decision reflects Inter’s appreciation for Mkhitaryan’s professionalism and tactical versatility, and secures a reliable option for coach Simone Inzaghi as they look to defend their Serie A title and compete in the Champions League.
