Henrikh Mkhitaryan will extend his contract with Inter Milan until 2027, according to reports in Italy. The 35-year-old Armenian midfielder had been considering retirement, but has agreed to remain with the Nerazzurri on a significantly reduced salary.
His current deal is set to expire at the end of June, but the new agreement will come into effect immediately following its expiration. Mkhitaryan had been earning €4 million net per season, but will now accept a substantial pay cut to continue playing for Inter. The decision to stay was heavily influenced by Inter assistant coach Cristian Chivu, who values Mkhitaryan’s experience and contribution to the squad.
Mkhitaryan joined Inter in 2022 after a spell with Roma, becoming a regular feature in Simone Inzaghi’s midfield. He has previously played for Borussia Dortmund, Manchester United, and Arsenal, establishing himself as a versatile and experienced player in European football. Last season, he made 33 appearances across all competitions for Inter, contributing with goals and assists as they secured the Serie A title.
The extension provides Inter with valuable squad depth ahead of their Champions League campaign next season. It also demonstrates the club’s commitment to retaining experienced players who can contribute both on and off the pitch, despite financial considerations. Negotiations regarding renewals for other expiring players are ongoing, but Mkhitaryan’s deal is now considered finalized.
