Monaco have announced the signing of Mathys Detourbet on a season-long loan from Manchester City. The 19-year-old winger joins the Ligue 1 club after City purchased him from Troyes earlier this summer, a transfer reported by L’Équipe to be worth around €25 million. The move offers Detourbet the opportunity for regular first-team football in the French top flight.
Detourbet arrives at Monaco having enjoyed a successful campaign with Troyes in Ligue 2. He featured in 37 league matches for the club, scoring four goals and providing seven assists, playing a key role in their title-winning season. Monaco’s official announcement highlighted Detourbet’s explosive pace and dribbling ability, noting his capacity to create chances and make a difference in wide areas.
Troyes are part of the City Football Group, the same ownership group that controls Manchester City, which facilitated the initial transfer of Detourbet. He progressed through the youth ranks at Troyes before attracting the attention of City, and now returns to France with Monaco. The loan move allows him to test himself at a higher level while remaining within the City Football Group network.
Monaco will face Troyes twice in the upcoming Ligue 1 season, once away on the weekend of January 23-24, 2027, and again at home on May 29th. This loan deal provides Monaco with an exciting attacking option, while Detourbet gains valuable experience in a competitive league. The move could potentially lead to a permanent transfer in the future, depending on his performance for Monaco.
