Monaco have completed the signing of Sadibou Sané from FC Metz for a fee of €10 million, including €3 million in potential bonuses, the club confirmed on Tuesday evening. The Senegalese centre-back has signed a five-year contract with the Principality side and successfully completed his medical examination on Monday. Sané will join the Monaco squad for training on Wednesday morning.
The move for Sané represents an early indication of Monaco’s planned squad overhaul ahead of the new season. The club has already secured the signings of Flavio Nazinho, Mathys Detourbet, and 17-year-old Aymen Assab, with all three players present for medicals on Monday. Sané’s arrival provides much-needed reinforcement in the centre of defence for Monaco, who finished third in Ligue 1 last season.
Sané, 22, established himself as a key player for Metz over the past two seasons, making 64 appearances across all competitions. He played a crucial role in Metz’s survival in Ligue 1, demonstrating his aerial ability and tackling prowess. Prior to joining Metz, Sané progressed through the academy at Génération Foot, a Senegalese football academy known for developing players who have gone on to play in Europe’s top leagues.
Metz will be looking to reinvest the €10 million received from Sané’s sale into strengthening their own squad. The club narrowly avoided relegation last season and will aim to build a more competitive team for the upcoming campaign. For Monaco, the acquisition of Sané signals their ambition to challenge Paris Saint-Germain and Lens at the top of Ligue 1, while also potentially competing in European competitions. This transfer provides Monaco with a young, promising defender who has already proven his capabilities in the French top flight.
