Gabriel Moscardo will spend the 2024-2025 season on loan at Espanyol Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain have confirmed. The agreement, reported by L’Équipe, is a straight loan deal with no option for the Spanish club to make the transfer permanent. The 20-year-old Brazilian midfielder will continue his development in La Liga after a previous loan spell in Ligue 1.
Moscardo arrived at PSG in January 2024 from Corinthians for a reported fee of €20 million, but has yet to make a competitive appearance for the Parisian side. He was immediately loaned to Braga, where he featured in 39 matches across all competitions, contributing one goal and one assist. Despite his consistent playing time in Portugal, PSG have opted for another loan period to further integrate the young player.
Prior to his move to Braga, Moscardo had also been loaned to Reims during the 2023-2024 season, a spell hampered by injuries to his hip and hamstring. The club will hope he can avoid a repeat of those fitness issues during his time in Spain. Moscardo’s current contract with PSG runs until 2028, indicating the club’s long-term faith in his potential.
The decision to loan Moscardo again suggests that PSG manager Luis Enrique is not yet ready to incorporate him into the first-team squad, despite the significant investment made in his transfer. Espanyol will provide him with regular first-team football, which is seen as crucial for his continued progress. This move could prove beneficial for both parties, allowing Moscardo to gain valuable experience while PSG monitor his development closely. The loan allows PSG to assess his readiness for a more prominent role in the future, potentially as competition for established midfielders.
