Coventry City have expressed interest in taking Manchester United midfielder Mason Mount on loan ahead of their return to the Premier League, according to sources at TEAMtalk. Manchester United are reportedly open to allowing the 27-year-old to leave on a temporary basis, though a permanent sale is considered unlikely due to Mount’s substantial wages, which are set to increase following the club’s Champions League qualification.
Mount joined United from Chelsea in 2023 for an initial fee of £55 million but has struggled for consistent playing time at Old Trafford. He experienced a brief period of form under former manager Ruben Amorim, becoming a key figure in midfield during the Portuguese coach’s tenure, but has since fallen down the pecking order following the appointment of Michael Carrick.
The club are now planning a significant overhaul of their midfield and view a loan move as a beneficial solution, allowing Mount to gain regular match practice while potentially retaining a future sale value. Several other Premier League clubs are also monitoring Mount’s situation and could be interested in a loan deal.
Mount is understood to be content at Manchester United and keen to prove his worth, however, the club’s desire to reshape the squad suggests his long-term future may lie elsewhere. Coventry City, managed by former Chelsea boss Frank Lampard, could offer Mount a familiar environment, having previously thrived under Lampard’s guidance at both Derby County and Chelsea. A decision regarding Mount’s future is expected in the coming weeks as the summer transfer window approaches. This move could provide Mount with the minutes he needs, while allowing United to reassess their midfield options.
