Incoming Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho is reportedly considering a move for Chelsea right-back Josh Acheampong when he officially takes charge this summer, according to a report in Defensa Central. The potential transfer comes as Los Blancos prepare for the departure of veteran full-back Dani Carvajal, whose contract is set to expire at the end of the season.
While Trent Alexander-Arnold has already arrived at the Bernabeu from Liverpool, Mourinho is apparently seeking further reinforcement in the position, with the report suggesting Alexander-Arnold’s fitness and consistency are concerns. Acheampong, 20, is presented as a viable long-term option, offering physicality and potential for development. The report estimates a transfer fee of around €25 million (£22m, $29m) for the England youth international.
Acheampong has made 42 first-team appearances for Chelsea, scoring twice, and is currently under contract at Stamford Bridge until 2029. He is considered one of the brightest young prospects at the club, but his potential availability may depend on the plans of incoming manager Xabi Alonso. Transfer journalist Pete O’Rourke reported in March that Chelsea have ‘no interest in sanctioning a sale’ of Acheampong, with Newcastle United and Crystal Palace also previously linked.
Defensa Central also lists several other full-back options for Mourinho, including Manchester United’s Diogo Dalot, AS Roma’s Wesley Franca, and others. However, the report highlights Mourinho’s familiarity with Dalot from their time together at Manchester United as a potential advantage. TEAMtalk reported in December 2025 that Real Madrid had previously shown interest in Dalot, with Manchester United potentially open to a sale. A move for Acheampong could hinge on Alonso’s vision for the Chelsea squad and the club’s willingness to part with a promising young talent.
