Jose Mourinho has reportedly outlined a comprehensive transfer strategy for Real Madrid following his appointment as the club’s new manager, with players from Manchester United, Arsenal, and Manchester City among those identified as potential targets. Spanish media outlet El Debate has detailed a six-player shortlist, signaling an ambitious summer for Los Blancos.
Mourinho has already secured agreements for three players set to join after the 2026 World Cup: Bernardo Silva will arrive on a free transfer from Manchester City, while Ibrahima Konate will join following the expiration of his contract at Liverpool. Denzel Dumfries is expected to complete a €20 million move from Inter to fill the right-back position vacated by Dani Carvajal. All three have reportedly signed contracts pending their World Cup commitments.
Beyond these initial signings, Mourinho is prioritizing midfield and defensive reinforcements. Mateus Fernandes, currently at West Ham, is identified as a key midfield target, although the Hammers are demanding a €93 million fee, which Real Madrid currently deem excessive. Manchester United are also interested in Fernandes, and the player is believed to favor a move to Old Trafford, though Mourinho’s personal intervention could sway his decision if West Ham compromise on their valuation.
In defense, Josko Gvardiol of Manchester City is reportedly Mourinho’s primary target, with a price tag of €60 million. Arsenal’s Piero Hincapie and Riccardo Calafiori are considered backup options, with both players reportedly open to a move to Madrid. Hincapie, in particular, is said to have harbored a lifelong dream of playing for Real Madrid, and a deal for either Arsenal defender could be feasible for between €50-60 million.
Further midfield options include Enzo Fernandez of Chelsea, but his €138 million price tag is considered prohibitive. Real Madrid also retain an interest in Julian Alvarez, despite an initial €150 million offer being rejected by Atletico Madrid. Perhaps the most ambitious target is Erling Haaland, with Real Madrid anticipating his eventual arrival, and potentially attempting to accelerate the deal this summer if the opportunity arises. Florentino Perez, recently re-elected as president, is reportedly keen on securing a marquee signing.
Mourinho is seeking to add two midfielders and three to four defenders to the squad, aiming to reshape the team in his image. These potential acquisitions signal a significant investment and a clear statement of intent as Real Madrid look to reassert their dominance in both La Liga and European competition.
