Real Madrid have been given a boost in their pursuit of Germany duo Nico Schlotterbeck and Felix Nmecha, with Antonio Rüdiger publicly expressing his approval of potential moves for both players. The defender, who recently signed a one-year contract extension at the Bernabéu, indicated he would be “happy” to see his international teammates join him in the Spanish capital before the close of the summer transfer window.
Rudiger’s extension, confirmed in June, keeps him with Real Madrid until at least 2027, despite previous speculation linking him with a departure. The club, under newly appointed manager Jose Mourinho, have already been active in the transfer market, bringing in Marc Cucurella from Chelsea, Bernardo Silva from Manchester City, and Ibrahima Konate from Liverpool. An agreement for Inter Milan right-back Denzel Dumfries is also reportedly imminent.
Rüdiger highlighted Schlotterbeck’s strengths, praising his aerial ability, aggression in duels, and build-up play, particularly noting the quality of his left foot. Both Schlotterbeck and Nmecha showcased their abilities during Germany’s recent 7-1 victory over Curacao at the World Cup, with Nmecha opening the scoring and Schlotterbeck later adding to the tally. Their combined Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) is currently calculated at €99.3 million.
The potential signings align with Real Madrid’s strategy of bolstering their defensive options under Mourinho. Concerns over Eder Militao’s fitness, coupled with inconsistent form from Rudiger and Dean Huijsen, suggest a need for reinforcement in central defence. Adding Schlotterbeck would provide further competition and quality in that area. Furthermore, a move for Nmecha addresses a need for midfield depth, particularly as alternatives to pursuing expensive targets like Enzo Fernandez, who Chelsea value at around €140 million. Manchester United are also reportedly interested in Nmecha, potentially forcing Real Madrid to move quickly. However, the club’s significant spending this summer, particularly on wages, may limit their ability to secure both players.
