Bosnian defender Muharemovic has completed a permanent transfer to Sassuolo from Juventus, the player revealed in a recent interview with Dazn. The move comes after a period of development within the Juventus Next Gen system, and a desire for more consistent first-team football. Juventus will retain a 50% stake in any future resale of the player, potentially allowing them to benefit from a future transfer.
Muharemovic spoke extensively about his time at Juventus, describing it as a significant step in his development. He highlighted the opportunity to train alongside experienced defenders like Giorgio Chiellini and Leonardo Bonucci as invaluable, stating that the lessons learned from them will stay with him throughout his career. However, he admitted to feeling disappointment at not making a senior appearance for the club, describing a difficult period where he watched teammates break into the first team while he remained with the reserves.
The 21-year-old emphasized that the decision to join Sassuolo was an easy one, explaining that the club clearly outlined their plans for his development. He praised coach Fabio Grosso for his impact on his game, particularly in improving his concentration, energy levels, and overall defensive capabilities. Muharemovic also revealed a positive conversation with Grosso during a period of limited playing time, where the coach expressed his belief in the player’s potential.
Muharemovic also discussed his close friendships with fellow young players Kenan Yildiz and Dean Huijsen, describing Yildiz as “like a brother.” He recounted a touching story of Yildiz supporting him during an injury, ensuring he didn't feel alone. The defender also spoke of his admiration for experienced defenders such as Virgil van Dijk, Alessandro Bastoni, and Joško Gvardiol, outlining the importance of physicality and a winning mentality in becoming a top player. He expressed his ambition to become “the strongest defender in the world.” He also fondly recalled Bosnia and Herzegovina’s playoff victory against Italy, calling it the best game of his career.
Sassuolo have become known as a club that provides opportunities for young players to develop, and Muharemovic believes this makes it the ideal environment for him to continue his progress. This move allows him to secure regular playing time and further establish himself as a promising talent in Serie A.
