Bayern Munich legend Thomas Muller has publicly urged his former club to compete with Manchester United for the signature of Switzerland midfielder Johan Manzambi. The 20-year-old impressed recently, scoring twice for Switzerland in a 4-1 victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Manchester United have been linked with Manzambi for some time, with sources indicating the club scouted him extensively. United are already set to welcome Ederson Silva to Old Trafford this summer, but are still seeking further midfield reinforcements following Casemiro’s departure and the potential exit of Manuel Ugarte. They are also monitoring other options, including West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes and Real Madrid’s Aurelien Tchouameni, while also showing interest in Croatia’s Martin Baturina.
Manzambi established himself as a key player for Freiburg in the Bundesliga last season, contributing five goals and four assists. Muller, who won 33 trophies with Bayern, believes the Swiss player possesses a unique skillset and adaptability that would benefit the Bavarian club. He highlighted Manzambi’s flexibility, maturity, and work ethic, praising his development within Freiburg’s system.
“He’s a good player overall. We’ve had him on our list for a while now,” Muller told MagentaTV. “For me, he’s someone, and now we can make a headline, that FC Bayern should also consider. You can sense his flexibility…I think his development is very, very good. He’s a player who can play as No.6 he can play as No.8, he can play as No.10.”
Following his recent brace, Manzambi expressed his delight at scoring his first career double on the international stage, stating he anticipates a sleepless night. The competition for Manzambi’s signature is expected to intensify, with both United and Bayern likely to make a formal offer. Securing Manzambi would provide either club with a dynamic and versatile midfield option as they prepare for the upcoming season.
