FC Nantes’ search for a new manager has hit a snag with Olivier Pantaloni, currently in charge of Lorient, reportedly declining an offer from the club, according to Ouest-France. Nantes are actively seeking a replacement for Vahid Halilhodžić, who has indicated he will not remain at the club beyond the end of the current season, regardless of whether they avoid relegation.
Pantaloni has overseen a successful campaign with Lorient, guiding them to ninth place in Ligue 1. While the Corsican manager was initially receptive to the proposal from Nantes, he has ultimately decided to pursue opportunities that guarantee remaining in the top flight. The decision suggests Pantaloni is confident of securing a position with a club that isn’t facing a relegation battle.
Halilhodžić’s impending departure leaves Nantes in a precarious position as they fight to maintain their Ligue 1 status. The club’s owner, Waldemar Kita, is keen to appoint a new manager swiftly to provide stability and attempt to steer the team clear of the drop zone. Nantes recently secured a positive result against Le Havre, but continue to struggle for consistency.
With Pantaloni unavailable, Nantes are now expected to broaden their search, with Stéphane Gilli emerging as a potential candidate. Pascal Dupraz, currently a free agent, has also been mentioned as a possible option. Dupraz has experience managing teams in challenging situations, but his appointment may not align with the club’s long-term vision. Pantaloni’s rejection is a setback for Nantes, forcing them to reassess their options and potentially settle for a manager who wasn’t initially on their shortlist. This could prolong the uncertainty surrounding the club's future and impact their performance on the pitch.
