Bayern Munich midfielder Bara Sapoko Ndiaye has been named in Senegal’s provisional 28-man squad for the World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada. The Senegalese Football Federation announced the squad on Thursday, with head coach Pape Thiaw tasked with reducing the roster to the final 26 players by June 2.
Ndiaye, 18, joined Bayern Munich on loan from Gambinos Stars Africa during the winter transfer window, a move that is anticipated to become permanent in the near future. He has featured in four matches for the Bundesliga champions since his arrival, gaining valuable experience at a high level. This World Cup call-up represents a significant opportunity for the young player to make his international debut on a global stage.
The inclusion of Ndiaye adds another promising talent to Senegal’s midfield options, alongside established players like Idrissa Gana Gueye of Everton and Pape Matar Sarr of Tottenham Hotspur. Senegal will be looking to build on their impressive performance at the 2022 World Cup, where they reached the Round of 16.
Also included in the squad is Nicolas Jackson, currently at Bayern Munich on loan from Chelsea, who enjoyed a productive season with the German side. The squad features a blend of experienced internationals and emerging talents, reflecting Senegal’s growing strength in depth. The full squad list includes goalkeepers Édouard Mendy, Mory Diaw, and Yehvann Diouf, defenders featuring Kalidou Koulibaly and Ismaïl Jakobs, and forwards Sadio Mané and Ismaïla Sarr. Ndiaye’s inclusion signals a potential bright future for the young midfielder and adds another dimension to Senegal’s World Cup campaign.
Senegal will be hoping to make a significant impact at the tournament, and Ndiaye’s inclusion demonstrates the coaching staff’s belief in his potential to contribute to the team’s success.
