Newcastle United are emerging as frontrunners to sign Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara this summer, according to TEAMtalk. The 22-year-old Senegal international has attracted interest from several Premier League clubs, including Liverpool, Arsenal, and Manchester United, but Newcastle scouts have consistently monitored his progress throughout 2026.
Camara joined Monaco in 2024 and has quickly established himself as a key player, earning over 50 senior caps for Senegal. He is valued in the region of €45 million (£39 million, $53 million) and is contracted to Monaco until 2029. His energetic performances in Ligue 1 and maturity on the international stage have impressed scouts across Europe.
Newcastle’s interest is not necessarily tied to the potential departure of Sandro Tonali, though the club acknowledges growing speculation surrounding the Italian midfielder’s future. Regardless, Eddie Howe is looking to strengthen his midfield options ahead of another demanding season, and Camara is seen as a player who could significantly improve the squad. Recruitment staff believe his athleticism, tactical intelligence, and ability to contribute in both phases of play would make him a valuable addition.
While Liverpool have also closely watched Camara, Newcastle are now demonstrating the strongest intent. The Magpies’ scouts were present at Monaco’s recent 1-0 defeat to Lille, where both Camara and teammate Maghnes Akliouche played the full 90 minutes. Liverpool are also reportedly showing increased interest in Akliouche, potentially signaling a double raid on Monaco this summer.
Monaco are aware of the mounting interest in Camara and know they may face a difficult decision regarding his future. Though not actively seeking to sell, the club recognizes the player’s growing reputation and the level of Premier League interest could prove difficult to resist. A source close to the situation indicated a strong expectation that Camara will move to England if a suitable offer is presented.
