Newcastle United are intensifying their efforts to sign Osasuna winger Victor Munoz and Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Garcia this summer, according to TEAMtalk. The Magpies face competition from Serie A side Como, where Cesc Fabregas is leveraging connections with Real Madrid to bolster their squad.
Munoz, a 22-year-old who broke into the Spain national team after a successful season with Osasuna, has emerged as a key target for Newcastle sporting director Ross Wilson. The versatile attacker, capable of playing across the forward line and in midfield, made a significant impact last season with six goals and two assists. However, any deal will require negotiation with both Osasuna and Real Madrid, who retain an €8million (£6.9m/$9.2m) buy-back clause.
The arrival of Jose Mourinho at Real Madrid may actually benefit Newcastle’s chances of securing Munoz, with sources suggesting the club may be less inclined to re-sign the player given other attacking priorities. Real Madrid are also reportedly wary of allowing Munoz to join Barcelona, potentially further aiding Newcastle’s pursuit. Galatasaray are also interested and prepared to meet Osasuna’s €40million (£34.5m/$46.1m) valuation.
Alongside Munoz, Newcastle are also monitoring Garcia, seeking to add further attacking options under Eddie Howe. The club has held discussions with Real Madrid regarding the striker, who is one of several centre-forward targets being considered. Como, however, are also interested in both Munoz and Garcia, benefiting from their strong relationship with Real Madrid and their ability to offer young players valuable playing time.
Real Madrid midfielder Thiago Pitarch has also been discussed by both clubs, though Newcastle would only consider a permanent deal, rejecting a loan with a buy-back clause. Newcastle remain confident of securing at least one of their targets, with Munoz currently the primary focus. The club believes Munoz would be receptive to a move to the Premier League, despite previous interest from Sunderland and other top English clubs.
