Roma are prepared to sell forward Matias Soulé this summer, according to reports from Italy. The move is being considered to help the club meet UEFA’s settlement agreement requirements by June 30th, and could also free up funds to pursue other targets, including Mason Greenwood.
Soulé’s time in Rome has been described as inconsistent, with 12 goals in 81 appearances over two seasons. Despite showing promise, he has yet to reach double figures in goals scored in a single campaign, partly due to injury concerns. This has led to manager Daniele De Rossi questioning his long-term future at the club.
The Friedkin ownership group values Soulé at between €35-40 million, representing a potential profit of around €20 million. This would add to the profits already secured from the sales of players like Sangaré, Saud, Baldanzi, and Ziolkowski, with further sales of youth prospects like Cherubini, Romano, and Della Rocca also anticipated. Selling Soulé could allow Roma to avoid selling more established players like Ndicka or Koné, who are preferred by De Rossi.
Soulé himself is reportedly open to a move, anticipating reduced playing time next season with the continued presence of Paulo Dybala and De Rossi’s desire to bring in two new starting wingers. While the Argentinian player would prefer a move to the Premier League, interest from Aston Villa and Bournemouth has so far been limited to initial inquiries. Borussia Dortmund, however, are showing strong interest and can offer Champions League football, along with a positive existing relationship with Roma through planned pre-season friendlies.
The potential sale of Soulé could also facilitate a bid for Greenwood, currently at Marseille. The French club is demanding €50 million plus bonuses, but Roma hope to secure him for around €45 million, leveraging Greenwood’s desire to join and Marseille’s need to balance their finances. The funds generated from Soulé’s sale would be instrumental in reaching that figure.
