Newcastle United have expressed interest in taking Juventus striker Jonathan David on loan this summer, according to TEAMtalk. The Serie A club are now prepared to sanction the Canadian’s departure after a disappointing first season in Turin.
David joined Juventus last summer on a free transfer from Lille, signing a five-year contract amid interest from several European clubs. However, the 26-year-old has struggled to make an impact, scoring just six goals in 34 appearances across all competitions.
Juventus are reportedly reshaping their attacking options, with talks progressing with Paris Saint-Germain over Randal Kolo-Muani and ongoing negotiations with Dusan Vlahovic regarding a new contract. This has led to David falling down the pecking order, making a temporary move the most likely outcome.
Intermediaries representing David have contacted several Premier League clubs, including Newcastle, Aston Villa, Leeds United, Brighton and Crystal Palace, to gauge interest. Newcastle are assessing multiple attacking options as they consider potential departures within their own squad, with Anthony Gordon among those linked with moves.
Prior to joining Juventus, David established himself as a prolific goalscorer during his time at Lille, netting 109 goals in 232 matches. His overall career tally stands at 154 goals in 306 games, having also impressed at KAA Gent. Those close to the player believe he still possesses the qualities to succeed in the Premier League despite his recent struggles in Italy.
Juventus are open to a loan deal that could include an obligation or option to buy, and David is reportedly keen on a move to England. Aston Villa are also exploring attacking additions, while Brighton’s preference for technically gifted players could see them enter the race. Crystal Palace and Leeds are also considering ambitious attacking signings this summer.
