Newcastle United have made a formal offer of €24million plus bonuses for AIK winger Zadok Yohanna, according to Swedish outlet Expressen. The move comes after the recent sale of Anthony Gordon to Barcelona for a reported £75million, leaving a vacancy in Eddie Howe’s squad.
Gordon’s departure to the Spanish giants was finalised last week, prompting Newcastle to actively seek a replacement on the wing. Yohanna, an 18-year-old Nigerian international, has impressed in his debut season in European football, recording five goals and four assists in 18 appearances for AIK.
However, Newcastle face competition from Brighton & Hove Albion, who have already reached a verbal agreement with Yohanna on personal terms. Respected journalist Florian Plettenberg confirmed this agreement, stating that Brighton remain confident of securing the player’s signature. Negotiations between both Premier League clubs and AIK are currently ongoing.
Plettenberg reported on X that Newcastle’s interest is concrete, but Brighton are not relinquishing their pursuit despite the late bid. A decision is anticipated in the coming days, with Yohanna holding a key role in determining his next destination. Newcastle have also been linked with a move for Real Betis winger Abde Ezzalzouli as a potential alternative.
The potential arrival of Yohanna would represent a long-term investment for Newcastle, while Ezzalzouli offers a more immediately available option. Should Yohanna choose to join Newcastle, he would add youthful pace and creativity to their attacking options. Brighton, meanwhile, are building a reputation for identifying and developing promising young talent, and securing Yohanna would further bolster their squad depth.
