Tottenham Hotspur are progressing towards a £50 million deal to sign Manchester City winger Savinho, with the player reportedly giving his approval to the move. The potential transfer represents a significant reduction from the approximately £70 million Tottenham were prepared to offer for the Brazilian last summer.
This pursuit comes amid concerns over Tottenham’s attacking options following the departure of Son Heung-min and a long-term injury to Dejan Kulusevski. Several wide players, including Richarlison, Mathys Tel, Wilson Odobert, and Mohammed Kudus, have struggled to make a consistent impact, prompting manager Roberto De Zerbi to prioritize strengthening the wing positions.
Manchester City initially resisted Tottenham’s advances last year, particularly after failing to secure Rodrygo as a replacement for Savinho. However, the club has now indicated a willingness to sell the 22-year-old, with reports suggesting a fee of £50 million would be acceptable. TEAMtalk sources indicate this is a lower figure than the previously quoted £60 million.
Personal terms are not expected to be a barrier, and the deal is being driven by De Zerbi’s influence, with the manager having a “significant impact on the desire of players to join Spurs,” according to TEAMtalk’s Fraser Fletcher. Savinho’s representatives have reportedly communicated his enthusiasm for the project under the Italian coach, who took charge at the end of last season.
Adding further weight to the impending transfer, Xavi Simons, formerly a teammate of Savinho’s at PSV Eindhoven, shared a picture of the pair on social media, seemingly hinting at a reunion in North London. The post, from their time together in the 2022/23 campaign, has been interpreted as a signal of Savinho’s imminent arrival.
Should the transfer be completed, it would not surpass Tottenham’s current transfer record, which stands at £65 million (including add-ons) for Dominic Solanke. Club-to-club talks are reportedly at an advanced stage, with Tottenham officials making “significant progress” in negotiations with their Manchester City counterparts. The addition of Savinho would provide De Zerbi with a dynamic attacking option and address a clear need within the squad.
