Newcastle United have reached an agreement with Freiburg for the transfer of midfielder Johan Manzambi, but are wary of potential interest from other clubs, according to TEAMtalk. The agreed fee for the 20-year-old Switzerland international is reported to be €60million, equivalent to £51.2million.
While club-to-club terms have been established, the deal is not yet complete as Newcastle continue to negotiate personal terms with Manzambi and his representatives. This leaves an opening for rival clubs to attempt to hijack the transfer, a possibility that is causing some concern at St James’ Park.
Manzambi has emerged as a highly sought-after talent in European football, attracting attention from across the continent following impressive performances in both the Bundesliga and recent international competitions. Newcastle manager Eddie Howe views the player as a key target who would significantly strengthen his midfield options, possessing the technical skills, athleticism, and long-term potential the club desires.
The potential arrival of Manzambi comes alongside the recently announced £23million signing of Sean Steur. These midfield reinforcements may offset the departure of Sandro Tonali, and could even potentially allow for the sale of club captain Bruno Guimaraes, who has reportedly informed Newcastle of his desire to join Arsenal. However, the club is currently resisting the prospect of cashing in on the Brazilian.
Furthermore, Newcastle may also consider offers for Joe Willock, who is entering the final year of his contract. The club could look to capitalize on his remaining value rather than risk losing him on a free transfer. Negotiations with Manzambi remain a priority, but Newcastle are proceeding cautiously given the competition for his signature and the evolving situation with other midfield players.
