Nico Paz is expected to continue his development with Como for the 2024-2025 season, according to reports from Italy. The move is beneficial for all parties involved: Real Madrid, who retain a buyback option; Como, who will retain a key player for their Champions League campaign; and Paz himself, who will receive consistent playing time and compete at a high level.
Initial expectations were that Paz would return to Madrid this summer, however, the recent acquisition of Bernardo Silva has altered the landscape at the Bernabéu. Silva’s arrival adds another significant name to an already star-studded squad, potentially limiting opportunities for the young Argentine. Paz enjoyed a successful season in Serie A with Como, scoring 12 goals and establishing himself as an important member of Cesc Fabregas’s team.
The 20-year-old Paz joined Como on loan from Real Madrid last season, quickly becoming a focal point in attack. He previously made his Champions League debut with Real Madrid three years ago, demonstrating his ability to perform on Europe’s biggest stage. Fabregas has consistently expressed his desire to keep Paz at the club, and recent developments suggest those efforts will be successful.
Real Madrid holds a 50% share in any future sale of Paz and has the option to match any offers from other clubs. They have until June 30th to bring him back to Madrid for a fee of €10 million, or they can exercise a third buyback option in the future for €11 million. Despite these options, the club appears content to allow Paz to continue his development at Como, believing his value will only increase. The player’s strong relationship with manager Fabregas is also a significant factor in his expected decision to remain with the club, and will likely continue to flourish.
Fabregas recently stated, “I think the less I talk about this, the better. We have started to discuss it. I don’t have to say anything about Nico as a player and as a person. You could see how much he cared.” This sentiment underscores the mutual respect and positive environment that has contributed to Paz’s growth at Como.
